During the manufacturing process of aluminum wheels, they are subjected to a shot blast process. Some of this fine shot is trapped in the recesses of the top of the wheels. The customer needed a fast and efficient method of removing this shot. What was provided by Blue Arc Engineering is a rotary flipper that would invert the wheels two at a time to dump the shot out. The concept is a conveyor that is mounted in a "barrel" that rotates 180 degrees to invert it, at which point the shot is dumped onto a chute that directs it back to the main shot handling system. This makes for a simple and robust means of quickly dumping the shot in-line with the conveyor system.
