Activated Roller Belt Conveyor (ARB)

Activated Roller Belt (ARB) Conveyors use a plastic modular belt with inset rollers that have the capabilities to carry products along the width direction of the belt when activated. The rollers can be orientated on either 0, 30, 45, or 60 degree angles, or in any combination of these angles depending on the application requirements. Rollers are available with smooth rollers or high friction rubber roller for applications that call for a high degree of positive drive. Below are material handling applications that use Activated Roller Belt technology.

Types of Activated Roller Belt (ARB) Conveyor

Activated Roller Belt Alignment Conveyor

ARB Alignment Conveyor
ARB Alignment Conveyor positively justifies product to one side of the conveyor in a short footprint compared to skewed rollers. The ARB rollers are usually set at 30 degrees, but often 45 degreed rollers can be used in a shorter conveyor space.

Activated Roller Belt Case Turner

ARB Case Turner
The ARB Case Turner rotates products 90 degrees while keeping product against the case turn side. This reduces the number of mis-aligned cases before other sortation operations begin.

Activated Roller Belt Descrambler

ARB Descrambler
The ARB Descrambler singulates unorganized product into a centered single file line of cases. This is typically used with three different conveyors being driven by a VFD motor.

Activated Roller Belt Palletizing

ARB Palletizing / Depalletizing
ARB Palletizing and depalletizing arranges cases into a pallet layer by using passive roller technology. This concept uses a combination of ARB Case Turn technology and a configured ARB conveyor that specifically arranges packages in a palletizable manner.

Activated Roller Belt Perpetual Merge

ARB Perpetual Merge
ARB Perpetual Merge allows merging of two or more lines into one without using accumulation or controls. This concept allows packages to move continuously at slower speeds while still meeting throughput requirements.

Activated Roller Belt Sorting

ARB Sorting and Diverting
ARB Sorting works with several diverts positioned on the same belt to sort products to their appropriate spur.

Activated Roller Belt Switching

ARB Switching
ARB Switching moves cases in from a single line of conveyor and diverts each case to its appropriate parallel conveyor line. ARB switching provides a much less expensive alternative to slat and pusher arms.

ARB Conveyor Applications

  • Flat bottom Cases with a 6” x 6” or large footprint
  • Corrugated products with a longer length than width
  • Works well when a small footprint is necessary
  • Applications where rates are too fast for pushers or plows

ARB Conveyor Benefits

  • Save floor space by eliminating long runs of tapered roller sections
  • Offer cheaper alternatives to traditional switches and shoe sorters
  • Provide a more positive product justification than typical tapered rollers
  • Turn-key systems easily fit into existing systems to solve a large range of product flow problems

ARB Conveyor Specifications

  • Angled Roller belts available in 0, 30, 45, and 60 degrees determining the angle of justification and speed
  • Uses flanged or v-groove wheels that lock into track
  • Custom accessories such as roller conveyors, turntables, and tilters can be mounted to the top of transfer carts for more specific applications

Activated Roller Belt (ARB) Solutions

Activated Roller Belt Solution for Returns Center

ARB Descrambler and Sorter Improve Throughput at Returns Center
A returns center servicing a large national retailer needed to increase the number of products processed within the facility. To accomplish this task, Blue Arc designed and fabricated a custom conveying solution utilizing ARB technology that could quickly descramble and sort a large variety of products into three separte lanes.
